Classes are held Monday through Friday in classrooms designed to provide a way for at-risk students to practice the skills that are necessary for success in a traditional school program. Our teaching staff not only provides academic instruction, but emphasize the skills needed to improve in attendance and behavior.
Independent Study at Gateway is an important component of the educational opportunities offered. If deemed appropriate, the student and the Independent Study teacher meet on a weekly basis to receive and review schoolwork. Performance is evaluated based upon the quality and quantity of schoolwork submitted to the teacher. Students work at their own pace, often accomplishing more than the minimum requirement.
Our Junior High School program is designed for seventh and eighth grade students to improve attendance and behavior, as well as remediate academic deficiencies. We work together with students and parent to design an educational plan which will enable the students to return to their districts of residence or graduate from the eighth grade.Classes meet daily Monday through Friday, and in some cases, independent study is provided when parents and teachers decide that it is a more appropriate placement. Our dedicated staff seeks to serve the academic, social and emotional needs of our early teen students.
Gateway and the Teen Parent Program (CalSAFE) have made a commitment to address the special needs of students who are pregnant or parenting. In addition to their academic program, students have the opportunity to participate in any or all services provided the Teen Parent Program; free on-site child care at our Camarillo and Fillmore locations.
